An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a test which measures the electrical activity of your heart to show whether or not it is working normally. An ECG records the heart's rhythm and activity on a moving strip of paper or a line on a screen.

Patient is made to lie down in a couch, the leads from the ECG machine are connected to chest and limbs. Sensors attached to the skin are used to detect the electrical signals produced by your heart each time it beats. These signals are recorded and printed by the machine and are looked at by a Doctor to see if they are unusual.
