I am a very healthy and active 64 year old. I ride horses, hike, eat well, am slender and active. I had a ruptured appendix and appendectomy 1 year ago. Symptoms were mild -moderate abdominal muscle pain (thought I did too many sit ups). Absolutely no nausea, no vomiting, no diarrhea. After mild to moderate abdominal muscle discomfort for a week, I had a fever so went to the ER due to weird symptoms. My husband and I stopped for lunch on the way to the ER. Needless to say, I was shocked to find out I had a ruptured appendix. After surgery, I was told that my body did a great job of walling it off being I am so healthy. (I take no medication and have no conditions or diseases.) It was definitely an 8+ week recovery. I tried to do barn chores at week 3 and felt I overdid it afterwards. I own a horse farm and work a full-time job as director of dental programs at a college. I just wanted to tell people to pay attention to their symptoms especially if you are active, healthy and don’t have risk factors. Lucky to be alive! ❤️
